Evidence-based
Clinical Review:
Clinical review is performed on
requested services/supplies that cannot be
approved by the initial professional staff as
medically necessary and appropriate. The
clinical review staff is specifically
credentialed and works daily under the direction
of our Board Certified Medical Director.
Determinations are made in accordance with
nationally accepted clinical criteria and
physician approved standards of care. All
determinations are delivered consistently and
fairly at all times.
The initial determination of
medical necessity is a part of the core service
provided by ICM. All appeals are sent
out to a URAC accredited company, who sends this
to a Board Certified Specialist in the same
field as the requested provider for review. The
cost for this is then passed on to the employer;
the actual cost of the review plus a 20%
administrative fee. Obviously savings to the
Plan can be very substantial.
